LOS ANGELES HISTORY - HISTORY OF LOS ANGELES CA

Los Angeles HistoryLos Angeles History - With the good and the bad this city never quits and rebuilds and withstands anything. Today LA continues to thrive. It is a popular destination for travellers and tourists. The people in the area work in many different fields and always will continue to be as diverse as the Motion Picture Industry. Without it what would the rest of us do? Remember someone makes all those movies that everyone likes to see for entertainment. In this city, on this land, is where it all begins. It will always be one of the fundamental parts of the United States continuing to uphold it’s famous Motion Picture Capitol of the World honor and rightly so.

September 4, 1781, The Town of the Queen of the Angels, Los Angeles came into being.

Many people never realize that before Hollywood ever came to be the hub of the motion picture industry, Long Beach was the winner. That’s where all the goings on were happening in Long Beach. A theatre called Balboa Studios did the most business of any independent studio in the entire world.
It wasn’t until after World War I that Hollywood took over the honors.

On February 25, 1942, a false alarm started gunfire (the cause has never been known) and launched the Battle of Los Angeles and it was the only serious military action during World War II over a United States Metropolitan area.

In 1981 Los Angeles celebrated its 200th birthday.

5 million people stretching 4,150 miles, join Hands Across America the human chain in 1986. The people held hands all across the nation from LA to New York City.

6.7 Richter Scale Northridge Earthquake, 1994 sparks $20 billion dollars worth of damage.

In 1998 El Nino Storms thrash against the Malibu area leaving a disastrous amount of damage to the entire area.
